Rooting Your Nook Color

So you`ve heard about the possibilities of your New Nook Color and you`ve come here looking to root it. A few things need to be said first. This will “void” your warranty. Barnes and Noble will not accept returns of a rooted Nook. However, as you`ll see the Nook is quite easily returned to an out of the box condition and any Nook that has been through these steps cant be distinguished from a stock Nook. Bottom line being unless something out of the ordinary happens you’ll be able to return your Nook no problems.

A Few Internet Fav`s for T.V.

Its no secret that with all the increased demand for highspeed internet over the last 10 years has led to a huge rise in video streaming and downloading across the nation. No longer do Americans have to sit in front of a television to get their network T.V. fix. In fact many folks including myself have forgone cable bills entirely. Heres our start to a little series we are gonna do on how you can switch from pay-per use services like cable and satellite versus Getting all your entertainment via the internet.

We do need to point out that Copyright infringement is a crime and just because you can do something doesnt mean its necesarily legal in your Local Jurisdiction. The amount of people being sued for being stupid is definatly on the rise so its advisable to understand EXACTLY what you are doing before you do it.

There are TONS of things on the internet that you have every right in the world to see. Some things the owners of want you to pay to see. Know the DIFFERENCE!!

Television on the net.

I`m gonna be real Honest here. Hulu ands its selection isnt exactly “all inclusive” . Its does have tons of content. Full length Movies, T.V. Episodes, Trailers and more. Great search features so finding what they have is easy enough. Definatly a safe place to kill some time. And well worth a LoOk.

Any kind of Google search for T.V. episodes will tell you that slashcontrol.com is a powerhouse in online video. Great Layout and enough titles to get you lost in television for as long as you c an stand. The thing I like best about www.slashcontrol.com is its search features. Way to easy to find a genre and although there might not be every chips episode your looking for you will find hours and hours of plenty of shows. Love the filter by network selection.

I think most people will be surprised by looking at the various networks sites around and finding out how many of their shows the networks are wiling to freely stream straight to consumers living rooms. It should be noted that traditional ads do exist. Yes Virginia, there are commercials on the internet. But all in all I do find it a much more pleasant experience with the right equipment. I must say I`m not a big fan of video on my laptop or and desktop station I happen to be at. I do enjoy nice screens and engaging sound with T.V. and movies.

The fact of the matter is there is enough video on the net freely available to last anyone a lifetime. I really dont see a point in running down the next eight or ten sites any teenager can google. We havent even mentioned YouTube yet and this post just keeps going so lets look at some alternatives to the basics now.

Free To Air Television (F.T.A.)

Free to air television is the signals from your local stations. These can be network affiliates like ABC, CBS and NBC. They can be Public Access (PBS) and even religious or government funded. Not to long ago the FCC mandated a switch to a digital broadcast signal so any decent antenna is going to render an excellent picture for your enjoyment. No more Bunny ears and moving the antenna around the room thats for sure. A sweet hardware set-up with ample storage. And you could be recording at your leisure editing commercials and watching seasons of your favs in no time. Again this covers a LOT more then I could ever get to in one generic post so lets keep going.

Torrents

Torrents are what set the entertainment industries on its ear a few years ago. Its quite possible the easiest way for todays pirates to distribute the goods across the planet. The occurences of a movie not showing up before its official release on the “torrent scene” are rare. At the most it takes about 24 hours to find a “watchable” copy of anything thats been released in theaters. I say “watchable” because they are cams. A “cam” is a release made from a handheld camera actually filming the screen. They used to be horrible things with peoples heads walking around in front and jerky cameras with horrible audio. This has all changed and according to the comments I read on the established (private) torrent tracker sites are quite good. A gentlemen named Bram Cohen started it all and its development has been nothing short of amazing. It has to be one of the most influential things in my life over the last 10 years due to its amazing ability to make information available on a peer to peer basis. If knowledge is power well then torrents are food for the gods.

Later on we will get into some of the details of these various things. The point is…..Your cable and satellite providers are clinging to your need for their services. Increased fees and infrastructure thats being surpassed by mobile carriers hopefully acts as a wake up call these providers.

The Day I`ve Been Waiting For

Well boys and girls. Its happened, 1ghz phones are on the horizon. I know the snapdrogon processors have been mentioned before. But as far as I know Acer is the first one to speak of releasing one. Now its time to replace my beloved G1.

Isnt it sexy?!?!

Acer has announced their first Android smartphone, called the Liquid. The Acer Liquid runs the Snapdragon 1GHz processor, and it’s also the first Android phone that uses the Snapdragon processor.

The phone comes with a high-def WVGA capacitive touchscreen and will be powered by Android version 1.6 aka Donut. The company claims the phone has been made with a couple of software features better than other smart phones that the company ever produced.

Such as power management for better battery life, better UI for entertainment and web bookmarking, camera with geo-tagging, self-timer, ISO, accelerated auto-focus performance, Spinlets app for streaming of music and video, and integration with social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc. There is no official price tag and actual release date for this phone yet.
